CALL FOR ARTISTS
The South End Branch Library and United South End Artists, Inc. (USEA) are
asking for entries for solo month-long shows in the library gallery in 2009. This
partnership between the South End Branch Library and USEA is now entering its
fourth year. Submitting artists must work or live in the South End.
Entries should include: up to six photographs, color copies or postcards of
representative work, preferably completed within the last two years; a resume;
and a self-addressed stamped envelope for return of materials if desired. Submissions
should be dropped off or mailed to the South End Branch Library, 685 Tremont
St., Boston 02118 by Friday the 24th of January. This is a show
juried by outside jurors, one of whom is Janet Kawada from Mass Art, along
with Anne Smart, from the library, and one to be announced. Notification will
follow shortly after the jurying date, which is during the last week in January.

SOUTH END PUBLIC LIBRARY GALLERY
For the past two years United South End Artists has been programming the gallery at the South End Public Library, 685 Tremont Street giving member artists the opportunity to have their work on display . Each month the work of a different South End Artist is featured. Shows in the Gallery are free to the public. The Gallery is open during regular Library Hours which are:
Monday 10-6, Tuesday 12-8, Wednesday 10-6, Thursday 10-6, Friday 9-5

THE USEA FORUMS
On September 4th over 70 people were on hand for the first ever United South
End Artists Forum MAKING THE MOST OF OPEN STUDIOS, held at the Boston Sculptors
Gallery. Moderator Janet Hansen Kawada and panelists Lisa Houck, Jean Mineo,Thomas
Rebek and Peggy Russell provided great insights on their experiences at Open
Studios as well as concrete suggestions for improving both the experience and
the financial outcomes of the event.

USEA FORUM: THE 101 ON MARKETING
Jenn Sherr, USEA member artist, draws on her own five years experience marketing
her work which is now in 32 galleries and boutiques nationwide. This forum
addressed promotion, professional demeanor, application processes, marketing
to your audience, pricing work, and having someone in your life who
gives you encouragement.
As always, USEA events are not limited to South End artists alone — all
are welcome to attend.
