Thank you for making the 22nd Annual South End Open Studios an overwhelming success. nd start planning now for the 23rd South End Open Studios which will be held September 19 and 20, 2009.
If you are an artist participation forms will be available on line in mid-March, 2009.
If you are an art lover we encourage you to use this website to maintain links with our member artists as well as keep in touch with our activities throughout the year.
South End Open Studios is your chance to meet over 300 artists…explore work that is both familiar and new to you...purchase work directly from the artist who created it...start your own list of artists you would like to learn more about or visit again after Open Studios.
Whether you have come to South End Open Studios for a number of years or this will be your first visit, you will be impressed by the incredible range of work you will see. Each stop along the self-guided route will introduce you to artists working a in range of media…oils, watercolors, photography, sculpture, jewelry, mixed media, fiber arts, ceramics, wood, glass, and metal as well as other types of visual and performance arts.
Visitors to South End Open Studios can walk easily from building to building (or those who prefer can take the free shuttle buses.) There are 3 information areas within our Open Studios area where volunteers can assist you with directions and questions. We also are able to provide free parking at the areas indicated on the map.

Getting around
Visitors to South End Open Studios can walk easily from building to building or those who prefer can take the free shuttle buses. Shuttle bus stops are indicated with the
symbol on the map. Buses run from 11:00 am until 6:15 pm and pass anyone stop approximately every 15-20 minutes. The shuttle buses circulate as indicated by the arrows on the Open Studios map.

Parking
United South End Open Studios is pleased to be able to provide a limited number of free parking, indicated by (Parking symbol) on the map spaces at 500 Harrison Avenue, Malden and across from 535 Albany Street in the Jacobson’s lot. In addition there is parking at meters throughout the South End and in the parking garage behind the Boston Center for the Arts.
Using the Open Studios Map
As you look through the brochure, you will note that a number appears in the (color) circle next to the address of each building. These numbers correspond to the location of that building on the Open Studios map. The map also indicates which buildings are accessible to those with limited mobility.
Information Areas
There are 3 information areas within our Open Studios area where volunteers can assist you with directions and questions. Tables are located on the Plaza at the Boston Center for the Arts (BCA) 539 Tremont Street, in front of 560 Harrison Avenue and in front of 535 Albany Street.
Mini-Tours
Tour Guides from Common Boston and My Town will walk with you to from the Boston Center for the Arts(BCA) to 450 Harrison Avenue giving you interesting information about many of the buildings you pass on your way. At 450 Harrison (about a 15 minute walk from the BCA) you can begin visiting artist studios having learned a lot about the intersection of art and architecture in the South End. Tours will depart the South End Open Studios Information Table on the Plaza at the BCA, 531 Tremont Street at 1:30 and 3:00pm both Saturday and Sunday.
