James de Crescentis

James de Crescentis is a poet and painter. He has lived in the Piano Factory in Boston for over 38 years, and is a former Gallery Director of the Gallery at the Piano Factory. In 2013, along with Dorothea Guild, Arni Cheatham and James Forren, he was on the negotiating committee to move and plan the new gallery, now known as the Piano Craft Gallery.

He has three chapbook collections of his poems published, the most recent one titled Pounding The Door Into Gray (Igneus Press, 2015.) His paintings have been exhibited in the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, NY, the Gallery at the Piano Factory, Club Passim and other New England venues. Awards and grants include: the Mary E. Thomas Award in Poetry, SUNY at Geneseo, NY, 1971; the Elizabeth Ling Reamer Memorial Award (for a watercolor), Finger Lakes Exhibition, Memorial Art Gallery, Rochester, NY,1974; and the Devine Award for Poetry, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH, 1984.

He received an MFA in Creative Writing from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH in1984. Since then, he has taught Creative Writing and Expository Writing at various schools, including Lesley University and Bunker Hill Community College.

Two of his paintings were published in Estuaires: Revue Culturelle, a literary/art journal in Luxembourg, 1996, including There Are No Walls.

He currently has over 50 paintings in private collections.
