Focusing on the journey reveals the true value of pursuing your goals. The secret lies in embracing the process as it unfolds. For over 50 years, Boston and Truro resident Catherine C. Haynes has lived this philosophy as an en plein air artist, capturing the landscapes of Cape Cod and New England. While her traditional landscapes initially featured pastels, her current artistic evolution focuses on translating that expertise into oil paints.

Ms. Haynes uses color and form to freeze fleeting moments when sun and atmosphere illuminate the land and sea. "Painting is a lengthy process of continual learning, just as in life," she notes. "There are many detours, and the trek is to continually learn and ultimately experience success."

Her vibrant work has been featured in prestigious galleries across New England, including a notable exhibition on Boston's Newbury Street alongside celebrated American artist Wolf Kahn. Ms. Haynes's global travels heavily influence her newer pieces depicting European destinations. She traveled extensively with Lois Griffel—impressionist painter and former director of the Cape Cod School of Art—and later led national artist groups on painting expeditions along the Amalfi Coast.
Her diverse educational background spans both the arts and analytical disciplines. She studied at the Cape Cod School of Art, Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), the Worcester Art Museum School, the University of Massachusetts Fine Arts Program, and the "Art in Provence" program in France. Additionally, she holds a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Massachusetts and an MBA from Babson College.
